Ingredients
You only need four ingredients to make this recipe, and you just might have all of them in your kitchen right now. If you don’t, you can snag them in just a couple of minutes at your local grocery store.

- Sour Cream – we always recommend full fat, but if you must, use what you prefer.
- Cheddar Cheese – mild, medium and sharp all work well in this recipe.
- Rotel – we used a can of classic Rotel with green chilies, however they have spicier versions if you want a little extra spice.
- Taco Seasoning – You can use a packet or homemade taco seasoning.
How to Make Boat Dip
Making this dip is as easy as it gets. You just mix dump everything into a bowl and mix and chill. That’s pretty much all there is to it.
1: Drain the Rotel tomatoes.
2: Add all ingredients to a bowl and stir.
3. Top with additional toppings (if desired) and serve with your favorite dippers.
This dip can be served immediately but for the best outcome chill until ready to serve OR refrigerate overnight for an extra thick and creamy texture! Be sure to give it a good stir before serving.

How to Store Boat Dip
Refrigerate boat dip for 3-4 days in an air-tight container. We love these glass containers with locking lids for storing all of our dips!
We do not recommend freezing Boat dip. It will break, become grainy and the creamy texture will be lost.
Tips for Making Boat Dip
- Drain your Rotel tomatoes very well so you don’t have watery dip.
- You can adjust the spice level of this dip by using mild, medium, or hot taco seasoning. For extra spice, consider adding sliced jalapenos!
- Mild, medium or sharp cheddar cheese both work well, so feel free to use either one.
- Chill this dip for a couple of hours before serving, or even overnight, to allow the flavors to meld together well.
- This dip is customizable! Add a can of corn or sliced black olives…whatever you’re craving.
