Creamy, savory, and salty onion dip might just be the ultimate snack and party dip. It’s one of those cold dips where you can’t help but go back for more.

Our family loves onion dip so much that we always double the recipe, which leads to the question: How long does onion dip last in the fridge?

How Long Does Onion Dip Last in the Refrigerator?

As we said above, onion dip is everything! It can be paired with chips, veggies, or practically any dipper you can imagine and it always tastes great, especially after it’s been chilled in the fridge and all the yummy flavors meld together.

With that being said, leftover onion dip is always worth saving! Thankfully, this awesome snack can be easily refrigerated for later.

Properly stored onion dip lasts 3-4 days in the fridge so you can enjoy this tasty dip again and again.

If making onion dip to snack on at home, the easiest way to prepare and store it is by mixing your dip in a bowl that already has an airtight lid. This is our go-to as it creates less mess. We love these glass containers with locking lids for storing all of our dips!

Otherwise, transfer any leftover onion dip to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3-4 days. In our experience it never lasts that long and is usually consumed in a day or two...max!

Since onion dip can be refrigerated so easily and for so long, it’s a great dish to make ahead of the party and store until you’re ready to serve.

How Long Does Onion Dip Last on the Counter?

Here’s where things get a little tricky. Onion dip contains dairy and is best served chilled. You can only leave it for so long on a counter or party table before it becomes unsafe to eat.

Once chilled, onion dip can be left out at room temperature for up to 2 hours before it needs to return to the fridge or be tossed out.

To extend the life of a party dip, try serving it in one of these ice-chilled dip bowls that are made specifically to keep cold dips chilled when serving.

This method allows perishable dips to last up to 4 hours on the counter before you should return leftovers to the fridge or toss it out.

If you are unsure about how long the dip has been out just get rid of it. Spoiled dip can make you sick so it is not worth the risk. If a dip on the counter looks runny, has an odd smell, or doesn’t feel cold anymore, toss it out.

How to Tell if Refrigerated Onion Dip is Still Good?

You don’t want to mess around with spoiled onion dip. Dip that is left out of the fridge for too long or kept in the fridge past the 3-4 day mark has the potential to lose quality and grow harmful bacteria.

Before consuming leftover party dip that has been stored in the fridge, always check for excessive moisture, odd smells, and mold. If the dip has any of these qualities, discard it – onion dip is simple enough that it’s easier to make a new batch than risk quality or your health.
